The Cycle of Good

This afternoon Judi and I responded to a Craigslist ad placed by a young mother selling fabric from her grandmother’s estate. We went through several boxes in the garage and pulled out the cotton fabric that will work in quilts. We filled a box and two plastic bags. We agreed on a price and I paid her. The woman helped us by carrying one of the bags to the car. As we loaded it into the car we told her that we’ll be using her grandmother’s fabric to make quilts for Project Linus. We said that in 2016 we made 42 crib-size quilts for Project Linus and organized a project at our church that resulted in 33 quilts for Project Warm Embrace. The woman asked about Project Linus. The conversation continued a short time, then we said goodbye. Just before we got in the car, the woman handed back the money and said, “Since you’ll be using this fabric for kids, I want you to just take it.”

A few minutes ago Judi received an email from this young mother. The two-year-old boy playing in the driveway while we looked at the fabric was in Children’s Mercy Hospital recently. After we drove away, the woman found the quilt he was given at the hospital. It had a Project Linus label.

The recipient has become a giver. The cycle of good continues.
